The Shadow Warrior program was developed so that young children can participate in Taekwon-do.  The children learn many of the techniques that students in the regular classes do, however it is much more spread out. Over a 10 month period, a child will learn all the things they need to know to enter into the regular classes and not feel overwhelmed.

When the child starts, they are given a white belt to wear. This belt has no stripes or colours meaning they are beginners. Every month, the students learn a set criteria of new things that will challenge them mentally and physically. At the end of the month, they are "tested" to see how much they remember. If they can perform the requirements for their next level, they pass. If they are still working on certain techniques, or if their behavior in class or at home was not very good over the month, they have to try for their new level the next month.

Stripe tests are no cost, new belt levels cost a small fee of $15.00 (this covers the cost of the belt)

The classes are fun, but also structured. The students learn rules of the gym, respect for teachers and one another and respect for Taekwon-do. They learn that Taekwon-do is for fun and for self defense, but never to be used to "beat up" people. The structured format of the class allows students to develop self discipline and focus because they are continually having to practice self control. (ie. when the instructor is talking they stand in attention, when they come in the gym they must remember to bow to black belts to show their respect etc.)

                          The levels are as follows:
                          Level 1:
                          1st Orange Stripe
                          2nd Orange Stripe
                          Orange Belt

                          Level 2
                          1st Purple Stripe
                          2nd Purple stripe
                          Purple Belt

                          Level 3
                          Grey Stripe
                          Grey Stripe
                          Grey Belt

                          Shadow Warrior Parents:

Shadow Warriors is our signature program that has been building martial arts foundations in hundreds if not thousands of children in our community in our 25 year history. The purpose
of Shadow Warriors is to give young children a taste of a Taekwon-do class, but
without being overwhelmed by “big kids”, adults and a faster paced program. We
start our Shadow Warriors out as young as 4 years old. Sometimes they take
longer to progress because they are still mentally and physically developing. It
is one of the best feelings as a Shadow Warrior instructor to watch them
progress – seeing them initially struggle with their focus or techniques, then
by the end of the season see them progress exponentially!

Some children start the Shadow Warrior program at 6 or 7 years old and may find it too “young”.Somechildren are more mentally developed and need more than the Shadow Warrior
program. If your child is feeling bored or is resisting coming, this is
probably the case. Even if your Shadow Warrior has NOT completed the program to
grey belt, they are certainly able to move up into our regular program, based
                            on their maturity.

Grey Belt: If your Shadow Warrior has completed the program to their Grey Belt, you have a few
                            options:

                          -
Stay in the Shadow Warrior class. This works best if you have a young grey belt who
is not mentally/physically able to keep up with the regular
                          classes

                          -
Move  into the 12 and under class. This is an awesome transitional class to get them
started into the regular program. Please note, this class has a different price
                            structure.

                          -
Move into the Whitebelt/ Beginner class. This is a great way to progress faster into
the regular (white-black)belt system. This is also a great opportunity for a
parent to join Taekwon-do and share the art
                          together.
