International Chang Hon Taekwon-do Federation (ICTF)
Phoenix Taekwon-do is a member of ICTF and ICTF of Canada. The ICTF is a world wide community of Taekwon-do clubs. The ICTF's main job is to set a standard of Taekwon-do that is based on the teachings of General Choi Hong Hi, the founder of Taekwon-do. The ICTF has many Masters and Grandmasters who worked with the General side by side and dedicated themselves to learning and perfecting the art. Many of the Masters are Taekwon-do pioneers who travelled with General Choi around the world when he was demonstrating Taekwon-do in different countries.
The ICTF is the governing body that issues colour belt and black belt certificates. This is important to Phoenix Taekwon-do because we feel that it is important that the community knows that we are teaching true Taekwon-do which is not governed by Phoenix alone, but by a Taekwon-do world community.
The ICTF also sets the rules and standards for all competitions. It is a requirement for black belts to be certified referees for competitions. Black belts learn proper judging calls and how to run a tournament ring safely.
ICTF of Canada
Master Stanley and many of the Phoenix black belts are members of ICTF of Canada. This is the governing body for Taekwon-do in Canada; ICTF of Canada oversees tournaments and insures they are run according to the rules and regulations of the ICTF.
Another function of ICTF of Canada is to help fund athletes to different events and seminars. Every year, the ICTF has an international tournament that invites all the member countries to send teams of top black belts (and sometimes colour belts). ICTF of Canada chooses a delegation of black belts to represent on the national team.
